History
The history of Fredensborg Store Kro is closely connected to the history of our neighbour Fredensborg Castle. The Castle was built in 1719-1722 by King Frederik IV. He named the castle Fredensborg Castle (Castle of Peace), in memory of the end of "The Great Nordic War". On October 11, 1722 on Frederik IV's birthday, the castle was opened. The year after in 1723 "The King's Inn" was built - now named Fredensborg Store Kro. The building was intended for overnight residence for the various royal visitors visiting Fredensborg Castle.

Through the history many royalties have stayed at Fredensborg Castle and Fredensborg Store Kro. Both our Queen Margrethe II and her youngest son Joachim celebrated their marriage on the castle. Every year Queen Margrethe II and her family stay at Fredensborg Castle for about 7 months, mainly in the spring and in the fall. When the royal family stays at the castle, the Royal Guard sounds reveille at 08.00 am and has a tattoo at 10.00 p.m. In addition a changing of guards takes place every day at noon. An everyday pleasure for the guest's visiting Fredensborg Store Kro - the closest neighbour to Fredensborg Castle.
