History
Gl. Avernæs is situated on the small peninsula Agernæs, which connects the island Helnæs with the island of Funen.

Since ancient time Gl. Avernæs has been occupied. Flint stones have been found by the coast. One of the local myths goes that the peninsula Agernæs has been named after Aver, who carved the Helnæs runes.

Beginning 19th. Century the past owner Brünnings-Hansen combined Ny Agernæs with Gl. Avernæs and in 1916-1917 the present manor with its characteristic tower was built. Since then Gl. Avernæs has been owned by Germans as well as the Danish family Garvin, who used Gl. Avernæs as a summer residence. Today, the former manor house is owned by the Danish Association of Teachers and a professional hotel- and conference centre is run.
