History
The history of Skjoldenæsholm dates back to 1348. The manor house then was a rather important castle. However, in 1567 it was destroyed as Frederik the 2nd needed material for the construction of Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød. The present manor house has been built over the years. From the main building which was built in 1662 by Müller only the "Countess wing" still exists. The main building that stands today was built in 1766 by Anna Joachimina Danneskjold Laurvig, born Ahlefeldt.
In 1794 the manor house was bought by Anna Marie Bruun de Neergaard and since then family Bruun de Neergaard has owned Skjoldenæsholm. In 1971, the family moved out in order to use the manor house for hotel and conferences. In 1991, the main building was fully restored and a place where the historic feeling combined with today's comfort was established. Today, Skjoldenæsholm is managed by Susanne Bruun de Neergaard, 8. Generation at Skjoldenæsholm.
